Xavier Nady may be third in the league in hitting but it doesn't much matter if his mates in the outfield combine for an .058 average.  Endy Chavez is 1-8 on the year and is batting a buck and a quarter.  Jose Valentin and his mustache are 0-9.   Anderson Hernandez' .148 average is looking pretty sweet by comparison.

If Beltran and Floyd are going to be anything more than day-to-day, it is time to give Woodward some shifts out there and consider a temporary reprieve for Minny-Manny Victor Diaz.  That, or forgo Glavine's 11 strikeouts last time out to get his .750 bat in the lineup.

Update 4/19/06

With an additional 0-6 between them today, the combined average drops to .043

Update 5/15/06

Waht a difference a month makes.  Chavez has shined, raising his average to .311 and The Mustache, with a breakout weekend, is up to .282.

Willie has shown himself to be a good judge of personell so far.  He is managing his bullpen like a chess master and his faith in Valentin, Chavez and Julio amongst others has, to this point,  made him look like a sage and made me look like a panic-artist.
