With the trade deadline but a few hours away, I wanted to go on record with a few of my opinions. I pretty much trust Omar implicitly to do the right thing, but if I did have his ear, I would offer the following gems:
Please don't trade both Lastings AND Carlos Gomez. I want at least one young outfield Prodigy to watch develop in the Orange and Blue.
DO NOT trade Duaner Sanchez...under any circumstances. I saw his name pop up in a rumor last week on Metsblog and I nearly vomited.
Don't throw Maine into a deal unless you have to. Bannister I like but I'd trade him before Maine.
I'd part with a package of guys I like (some combo Maine, Heilman,Banister, Gomez) but only for an absolute stud like Oswalt or Schmidt. I'd rather go with our current assets than give the guys above up for a Livian Hernandez or Kip Wells. Can't we get anyone to take Nady?
Perhaps more-so than the deals Omar has made, I am extremely pleased with all the trades he has passed up. It is more of an art to avoid bad deals than it is to make good ones. We are in a position of strength and I am confident that Omar will leverage that.
I can't wait to see what the team looks like tomorrow...even if the roster doesn't change at all.
