A “Glass is half-empty” guy might open a blog entry on last night’s game with:
- The Mets’ bats were silent for 9 and 2/3 innings last night and it almost cost the Mets a crushing defeat…or
- A wild and erratic Billy Wagner tried to wrestle defeat from the Jaws of victory last night, with a 10th inning meltdown – in two minutes he undid 3 hours of brilliant pitching allowing a double, wild pitch and triple to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead in the 10th…or
- You are not going to win a lot of games when you are held scoreless for 9 innings, your closer hands the lead over in the 10th on a double, wild pitch and triple and you need to depend on Damian Easly as your only source of power hitting
A more “half-full” opening might be:
- Buoyed by 9 innings of brilliant shutout pitching, Omar Minaya’s “spare parts” once again rose to the occasion – first with Damien Easly’s dramatic 2-out, 2-strike, do-or-die homerun in the 10th and then via Endy “Miracle Man” Chavez’ surprise game winning drag bunt in the 12th - to win a game that championship teams seem to find a way to win.
I think I like the latter version. Yea…..Brilliant pitching, dramatic do-or-die homer, Endy as ‘da man, ….lets go with that one. Print it, lock-and-load, Book ‘em Dan-o, release the hounds.
